A Brief History of Colloidal Silver
Colloidal silver has many benefits, and this relates to its healing and antimicrobial properties. A growing number of people and companies are learning how to make colloidal silver.
Colloidal silver solution is a miraculously powerful, healing agent that has been used for thousands of years across the world. It has been used as far back in recorded time as 4000 B.C. Eastern Persian records specifically mention the practice of placing water in silver vessels to preserve it. The ancient Babylonian and Greek civilizations were fully aware of silver’s ability to disinfect and its healing benefits.
Before the invention of the refrigerator, it was common practice to drop a silver coin into a container of milk as a preservative. The silver coin was known to prevent the growth of algae, bacteria and other undesirable organisms.
For centuries, the royals families of the world, ate from expensive silver plates, drank from silver cups, used silver utensils and stored their food in silver containers. As a result of this use, silver was mixed into their foods and they retained a good health and rarely got any infectious illness.
Silver were in common use in America from the late 1800s until 1938. It was prescribed for a great variety of diseases and infections. There were none of today’s antibiotics available, and silver was used for just about everything.
Silver solution was relatively expensive back then, which limited its wide-spread use. Silver effectively vanished from the medicinal market in the early 20th century. It was replaced by conventional antibiotics because it could not be patented.
The method for producing silver solution in the olden days was to grind it into a fine powder and dissolve it into water. This was a very expensive and cumbersome process. With the advent of modern technology, and the use of electrolysis, the production of silver solution has become so much more cost effective. Silver solution / colloidal silver is far cheaper and easily available today.
The Benefits of Colloidal Silver Solution
Antimicrobial Properties
In modern lab tests, silver is getting its fame back as a safe, multi-purpose bacterial killer. It is known to kill super bugs, such as MRSA, and has been reported to be effective against 650 pathogens.
The medical uses of silver include its use in wound dressings, creams, and as an antibiotic coating on medical devices. Newer diabetic wound dressings use a silver nano material coating to prevent wound infections.
There is evidence that using silver-alloy in dwelling catheters, for short-term catheterizing, will reduce the risk of catheter-acquired urinary tract infection
How Does Silver Kill Bacteria?
Pathogenic bacteria are anaerobic, and if oxidized will die. Thus, to prevent oxidization, they carry an enzyme to specifically repel negatively charged oxygen. It is theorized that negatively charged bacteria, and negatively charged oxygen, will both be attracted to and will bind with silver ions, which are positively charged. Since the negative charge is neutralized through an electron transfer with the particle of silver, each can now easily combine with the other. This will result in the oxygen oxidizing the pathogen and destroying it.
Healing Properties
The healing benefits of silver was discovered by Robert O. Becker, MD and was reported in his book, The Body Electric. When silver particles is present in the body tissue, some of the divisions will be different. One duplicate cell and one de-differentiated cell are formed. The de-differentiated cell is like a baby cell that can change into any type of cell in the body. It will naturally migrate to a part of the body where there is tissue damage. When it comes into contact with the damanged tissue, the cells change to a local tissue type cell, adding to the normal cell repair in the injured area. According to Dr Becker, positive silver particles accelerates the healing process by over 50 percent.
How to Make Colloidal Silver Solution
Colloidal silver solution can easily be made using silver rods and a 9-volt battery. The rods are connected to the battery using wires and submerged in water. Silver ions and certain silver compounds will be produced in the water. This process is known as electrolysis. This is the easiest way to make a colloidal silver solution.
There are also many colloidal silver generators sold in the market. Most generator suppliers claim their devices to be superior but most have basically the same set-up as the above, except instead of using a battery, it plugs into the wall socket.
Colloidal silver produced using a generator usually are of low quality and very unstable. Its particle size gets larger, due to agglomeration, as the ‘brewing’ time increases, and the solution get darker. Hence it can only be used to make colloidal silver solution of very low quality and concentration.
After using the generator multiple times, the silver rods will erode, and it will become difficult to estimate the concentration of the colloidal silver solution being produced. The quality of the colloidal silver solution will also further deteriorate.
High concentration colloidal silver solution as the one produced by HighPPM Silver can only be made using technologically advanced equipment. It is also very cost effective and convenient to make colloidal silver solution of any volume and concentration by simply adding drops of the silver concentrate in water.
